Confidence. One word, that stops people from doing so many things just because they don't feel they have it.
What is confidence?
According to the Oxford Dictionary, it is the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.
How can one increase confidence?
According to the definition, it means that confidence is something that comes from reliance and faith. So to increase confidence, you need to increase the reliance and your faith towards your ability of doing a particular thing.
And how do you increase that?
From experience.
The more exposure you have of something the more confident you become.
The more you have done, the more sure you become that you can do it again.
For example:
Do you feel confident to drive?
Depends! If you have driven for a long time, you will feel confident to drive.
But what about someone who has just started learning to drive? Will they feel confident? Chances are less.
So that means:
Not feeling confident is a good sign.
Because that means you're doing something that you have never done before. It means you're getting exposure to something that is eventually going to increase your faith towards your ability to do something, that means increasing the overall confidence.
So basically, the only way to increase confidence is to do things that you're not confident about.

But then,
why do we hesitate to take on tasks that we are under-confident of?
To avoid failure.
But the problem is not the failure itself, the problem is the meaning that we give to it. We avoid failure because we don't like the feeling that comes with it. The feeling that we couldn't do it, the feeling of not being capable, the feeling that we are not good enough.
Success is so glorified in this world that failure doesn't have the space to exist. But we need to remind ourselves of the importance of failure. It is the only risk we have to take, a risk of failing, to gain anything that we want.
So next time if you don't feel confident, remember it is a good sign!
