Kings and philosophers shit...

Michel de Montaigne was one of the most significant philosophers in the 16th century French Renaissance. He is known for popularizing the essay as a literary genre. This is one of his lines: "Kings and philosophers shit, and so do ladies."

What is he trying to say by these lines?

It is a simple yet very important reminder that everyone that we find intimidating, scary, or perfect, at heart is very much like us. They are humans with the same types of fears, problems, vulnerabilities, and mistakes.

Social media is making it difficult to be in touch with reality!

Even though there was nothing like social media in the sixteenth century, people still needed a reminder that kings and philosophers are imperfect too.

And now with social media on the market, it is much more important to remind ourselves that those perfect lives we see on the internet are just a small part of their big messy life.

"Social media makes more sense when you view it as a place people go to perform rather than a place to communicate." - Morgan Housel

When we see the internet as a platform to perform, it is much easier to consider the existence of the chaos of the backstage. So next time, whenever you feel intimidated or depressed by the perfect life shown on the stage of the internet one can remind oneself that it is a very well-thought-out and final edited version of their performance.

Knowing the above things, one can become a big philanthropist.

One of the biggest charity works one can do (without using any money) is to showcase your imperfections to the people around us. By being open about our flaws, we can give so many people a feeling of peace and belonging.

It is a great work of charity if we can remind ourselves and the people around us that everyone is just as stupid, scared, and lost as we are.

Just like us, everyone is comparing themselves with someone and wondering whether they are the only ones with a sad imperfect messy life. By sharing our flaws, we can help them feel more human. It would be a work of compassion if we can assure them that it is possible to have an imperfections and still live a happy and meaningful life.
